For the

general convenience I have thought it advisable to suggest the

engagement of an Assistant Shroff, whose duties will retain him in the Registration Office. This appointment will not be required to be filled for longer than and I believe that

even

a year,

before the

expiration of that period his service may possibly be dispensed with._

The whole work of the

Registration of householders and Servants

will be carried

on under

my

own

immediate supervision, and that

some confidence may

be instilled

in the minds of the less educated

and lower classes of the Native Community, in order to let them see that the new law does not involve them in much difficulty, I have called on their richer brethren who live in the four most central Districts, and who

are able to understand more fully the objects and simple requirements of the Ordinance, to register

themselves during the 2nd to the 15th Proximo, leaving the latter half of the month for the inhabitants of the remaining
